چکیده

The metamorphic facies of the subsurface Precambrian of Alberta are charted for the first time as a contribution to the new tectonometamorphic map of the Canadian Shield. Inferences about facies are based primarily on petrographically determined mineral assemblages. A few P–T determinations from results of electron-microprobe analyses are available. The chronology of metamorphic events is based primarily on extensive and previously reported U–Pb, Rb–Sr, K–Ar, 40Ar–39Ar and Sm–Nd geochronology. New U–Pb, 40Ar–39Ar and Sm–Nd dates are reported for critical localities. All of Alberta was affected by a protracted series of early Proterozoic events. Late Archean (2700–2800 Ma) sialic crust in the southern half of the province was thermally overprinted at about 1800 Ma. In northern Alberta, older crust was dynamically, thermally and metasomatically reworked by a series of high-temperature events between 1750 and 1950 Ma.

The Lost South Gobi Microcontinent: Protolith Studies of Metamorphic Tectonites and Implications for the Evolution of Continental Crust in Southeastern Mongolia

The Central Asian Orogenic Belt, or Altaids, is an amalgamation of volcanic arcs and microcontinent blocks that records a complex late Precambrian–Mesozoic accretionary history. Although microcontinents cored by Precambrian basement are proposed to play an integral role in the accretion process, a lack of isotopic data hampers volume estimates of newly produced arc-derived versus old-cratonic c...

Two-billion-year granulites in the late precambrian metamorphic basement along the southern peruvian coast.

Uranium-lead data indicate that the high-pressure granulitic and charnockitic nuclei within the medium-grade metamorphic complex of the Peruvian coastal area must be related to an orogenic event 2 x 10(9) years ago. As in western Africa and Brazil, this old granulitic basement is reworked by Late Precambrian orogeny. Its presence along the Peru-Chile Trench must be taken into account in interpr...

Metamorphism of Late Neoproterozoic-Early Cambrian Schists in Southwest of Zanjan from the Soltanieh Belt in Northwest of Iran

Late Neoproterozoic-Early Cambrian schists have been occurred in southwest of Zanjan city from the Soltanieh belt. The Soltanieh belt in northwest of Iran is uplifted basement of Precambrian-Paleozoic in main central Iran zone and includes outcrops of Precambrian, Paleozoic and Mesozoic Formations. Late Neoproterozoic-Early Cambrian schists, the oldest stratigraphy unit in the region, consist o...

Dating of Precambrian Metasedimentary Rocks and Timing of their Metamorphism in the Soursat Metamorphic Complex (NW IRAN): Using LA–ICP-MS, U–Pb Dating of Zircon and Monazite

Soursat Metamorphic Complex (SMC) in west of Takab city is one of the polyphase metamorphic terrenes in northern Sanandaj-Sirjan metamorphic belt of Iran. The SMC composed mainly of metasedimentary rocks associated with granitic intrusions. Based on metamorphic rocks, two metamorphic phases could be separate in the complex. M1 is representative of regional metamorphisms which varies from greens...

Geological and Structural Setting of Wadi Hodein Area

The Wadi Hodein area in the south Eastern Desert of Egypt is occupied by Neoproterozoic Pan-African (Precambrian) basement rocks including metamorphic and intrusive assemblages. The metamorphic assemblage comprises dismembered ophiolitic metamorphosed ultramafic rocks and island-arc calc-alkaline metavolcanics. On the other hand, the intrusive assemblage rocks include syn-tectonic tonalite-gran...
